John A. Family Golf Scramble Rules
1. Format of Play
This is a 2-person scramble format, where both players hit from their qualified tee box, select the best shot, and both play from that spot. This continues until the ball is holed.
The team must play each shot from the same location, within one club length (no closer to the hole).
The ball must be played from the same cut of grass (e.g., fairway, rough, bunker).

2. Team Composition
Each team consists of one parent (or guardian) and one child.
Parent/Guardian Qualifications- any father, mother, stepparent, grandparent, legal guardian, father-in-law, mother-in-law
Child Qualifications – any son, daughter, stepchild, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law
3. Tees
Parent/Guardian play from the designated tees
Adult Men – play White Tees
Adult Women – play Red Tees
Senior Men 60+ - play Gold Tees
Children play tees based off age and skill level
AGE GROUP (Boy/Girl) - 12 and Under
Beginners (50-120 yds) – play from Beginner Tees (150 yd fairway marker)
Intermediate (120 – 180 yds) – play from Intermediate Tees (Start of Fairway)
Advanced/Competitive (180+) – play from (Red Tees)
AGE GROUP (Boy/Girl) – 12-14
Boys - play from Men’s White Tees
Girls – play from Ladies Red Tees
AGE GROUP (Boy/Girl) – 15+
Handicap 10+, Boys to play Men’s White Tees, Girls to play Ladies Red Tees
Handicap 0-9, Boys to play Men’s Blue Tees, Girls to play Men’s White Tees
4. Order of Play
Both players tee off, then select the best shot.
The chosen shot must be marked, and both players must hit their next shots from within one club length of that mark.
This process repeats until the ball is holed.
5. Putting Rules
The ball must be played from within six inches of the chosen spot on the putting green, not closer to the hole.
Once a ball is holed, the score for that hole is final. (NOTE: Do Not “Putt Out” until both players have made a stroke.”
If one player makes a putt, the second player does not need to putt.
6. Minimum Drive Requirement
Each team must use a minimum of 3 drives from the child and 3 drives from the parent over the course of 9 holes (or 6 each for 18 holes).
The scorecard must indicate which drives were used.
7. Scoring
The team records the total strokes taken for each hole.
The lowest total score wins.
In case of a tie, a scorecard playoff may be used, starting with the lowest score on the hardest hole and proceeding in order of difficulty.
In the event of a tie – a scorecard playoff will be used, starting with the lowest score on the highest handicapped hole, and then in proceeding in order of difficulty until a winner is determined.
8. Pace of Play
Teams should play ready golf to keep up with the group ahead.
Maximum score per hole is DOUBLE BOGEY (e.g., 5 on a par 3, 6 on a par 4).
9. Rules of Golf
USGA Rules of Golf apply except for the scramble format modifications.
Local course rules may also apply.
10. Sportsmanship & Conduct
Players are expected to show good sportsmanship, honesty, and respect for other teams.
Any cheating or failure to follow rules may result in disqualification.
All rules' infractions can and should be brought to the attention of the tournament committee. All committee decisions on ruling are final.
11. Prizes & Awards
Awards may be given for lowest team score, longest drive, closest to the pin, and other categories determined by the tournament committee
